In this article, you will find all the essential information you need to start working with our New Mobile Application- snApp. We will guide you through the key aspects of using it with dermoscopes – from proper mounting and calibration to operating the application itself.

Dermatoscope Attachment

There are many dermoscopes available on the market. The ones we recommend (and which we used to record videos) are dermoscopes from DermLite

DermLite also produces dedicated phone cases for iPhone 13, 14, 15 and 16 models, which allow secure mounting of the above-mentioned dermoscopes.

For other iPhone models and Android devices, an alternative universal attachment is also available. It can be screwed directly onto the phone without the need for a dedicated case. (link)

The following video shows how to mount two example dermatoscopes using two example mounts. The mounting method may vary depending on the components you have.

1. Setting Up the Application

Before you begin the setup, please make sure that your clinic or user account is already created in TrichoLAB.

2. Calibration

Calibration ensures accurate trichoscopy results.

The calibration process consists of the following steps:

🔹Step 1 – Lens

Make sure the lens is properly attached to your smartphone camera. Depending on the type of holder you are using, the mounting process may look slightly different.

🔹Step 2 – Light

Turn on the light on your device. Depending on the dermoscope model, different buttons are used for this function

🔹Step 3 – Calibration Part 1

On the screen, you will see an animation guiding you through the calibration process. You will need to take three photos using the calibration pattern:

⚠️Important: Calibration applies to the selected zoom (the application itself modifies the zoom in trichoscopy). Set the ring to the basic magnification and perform the calibration.

  1. Place your phone with the attached lens directly over the calibration pattern, centered. Gently press the dermoscope against the pattern and take the first photo. Confirm it on the screen.

  2. Slightly rotate your phone at any angle and take the second photo. Confirm it.

  3. Rotate your phone again, this time at a different angle, and take the third photo. Confirm it.

In total, you will take three photos of the calibration pattern from different angles.

🔹Calibration Part 2

In the next step of the calibration process, a blue rectangle will appear on the screen.

Your task is to position two calibration cubes inside this rectangle. Once properly aligned, take a photo, ensuring that:

  • The two cubes are centered in the frame.

  • No edges of the other cubes are visible in the frame.

This ensures that the calibration is completed correctly and the software can adjust the settings with full accuracy.

✨ Now you are ready to take trichoscopy images! ✨

Snap Navigation Panel

Once calibration is complete, opening the application displays the main panel.

At the top, you can see the User profile with the following information:

User name – the account you are currently logged into.

Credits available – shows the number of tokens you can use for submitting examinations.

Connection status – whether you are connected to Wi-Fi.

Unsent Examinations – This tab contains examinations performed while your device was offline. You can access them here and send them once you are connected to the internet.

Below, you will find Trichoscopy buttons:

Start Trichoscopy – click here to begin a new examination.

Live View - for taking images freely

Settings – Here you can recalibrate your device, change the language of the application, or log out of your account.

Trichoscopy

The rules for taking trichoscopic photos are the same as always:

1. Parting line along the longer edge of the screen with nice hair separation.

2. A focused photo.

3. No overlapping/crossing hairs.

Unlike the previous version of the mobile app, this version offers more procedures. After selecting a patient, you’ll be taken to a screen with a selection of procedures; each has its own description. Click "i" for more information.

Below you’ll find a short video explaining how to use the new snApp to take and upload trichoscopy images to LAB for analysis.

⚠️ Note

This version of the application is available for Android and iOS 16 or higher.

For users with earlier iOS versions, updating to this release is not possible; in such cases, the device will remain on the previous version of the app.
