If the image quality in an examination is too poor for our analysts to retrieve accurate data and generate trustworthy statistics, the examination is rejected.
Overall feedback:
Since you can choose the number of areas and pictures taken in each area, please remember about the quality of these pictures.
4️⃣📸If you have 4 micro images in each area and only one of them is of worse quality, analysts can further use the other 3 to extract correct data.
1️⃣📸If you have only one picture per area (it's faster, but...) it must be perfect, otherwise, your results can be inaccurate.
If the photos are blurred, lack a visible parting line, or have too many overlapping hairs, they may be unsuitable for analysis. In such cases, we are forced to reject either the individual photo or the entire examination (if it's the only image from that area). TrichoLAB provides technical feedback for each analyzed image.
🟩GREEN frame - the image is good.
🟨YELLOW frame - the image is not perfect - read the comments.
🟥RED frame - image could not be processed.
In addition, under each image, there is an indication of what is the reason for the color other than green, e.g. poor parting line, photo out of focus, too much hair passing through the image....
To make a perfect picture you need to focus on these 3 aspects:
Parting line
The parting line should be in the center of each photo and should run horizontally (from left to right side.) Then we can see at least two times more follicular units in each picture.
For a good parting line please use a rat-tail comb.Focused images
The camera should be pressed with its entire surface against the patient's scalp, After pressing the trigger button, please wait 2-3 seconds before moving the camera - this will avoid blurred images.
With good-quality pictures, we are able to properly measure parameters such as hair shaft thickness.
Crossing hair
Avoid hair that does not belong to the field of view (during the examination, these hairs are marked in orange/ yellow). These hairs are covering the scalp with follicular units -> in a result we are not able to provide proper statistics, because the subject of the measurements is covered.
With gray hair, by definition, it will be more difficult, because it is less visible - with them you need to be even more precise, sometimes we recommend dying hair before the examination to make it more visible.
How to make a good parting line - creating a parting line, holding hair with your fingers and comb, pressing the camera
Good vs. bad parting lines – how to recognize and enhance them:
Hair length:
Results can be inappropriate if you choose the wrong hair length during taking photos. While taking photos, pay attention to this setting.
If you accidentally selected the wrong hair length at the beginning of the examination, you can still adjust this setting during the analysis.
Short hair can be problematic - too long for “clipping mode”, too short for a nice parting. Below you will find a video showing how you can deal with such hair

SpotTemplate & VirtualTatoo
If you need to have the same spot on the next examinations, we recommended using a spot template. If you continue to have trouble finding the spot after marking the same holes, you can go into the previous examination and see how the Spot Template was put on. Then put the Spot Template on again, the way it was put on the first time. (Each square in the upper left corner is a separate examination/procedure, e.g., established template, baseline, follow up. If you want to see how the template spot was set up previously, select and click on the appropriate square - then the images from the given study will open.
AGASI - AGA Severity Index (Local Processing feature)
As this index is a comparison of the occipital and frontal areas, you have to shoot both these areas to receive it. In settings (gear icon - right-up corner) you can change thresholds indicators (for personalized results) - this option is available only with Local Processing
